Description
Description
The Rococo was, above all, a love affair with the garden. In eighteenth-century France, flowers climbed across porcelain, silk and boiserie, butterflies settled on gilded panels, and every line seemed to curl like a vine reaching for light. A century later, the Rococo Revival carried that same delight into glass.
This vase begins in deep emerald. Across its shoulders, peonies and small blossoms bloom in soft rose and cream, while golden butterflies drift among them as though caught mid-flight. Below, the color gives way to light: sweeping leaf-shaped panels are cut through to clear glass and filled with a fine diamond lattice, framing a central band of emerald scattered with circular cuts that catch the light like dewdrops.
Gilt mounts complete the composition. Rocaille handles twist upward in curling acanthus, a chased band crowns the rim, and a shaped base of scrolled foliage lifts the vase from below.
Placed near a window, it glows green in daylight; in the evening, the gilding takes over. Set it on a mantel, a console, or a library table, empty or filled with branches from the garden.
