The Klismos chair is one of the oldest and most enduring forms in the history of furniture. Born in ancient Greece, its profile appears on Athenian vases and friezes with a familiarity that suggests it was never invented so much as discovered, the natural result of someone sitting down and deciding that elegance required no excess.

The Regency period rediscovered it. In the early 19th century, as Europe looked back to classical antiquity for a decorative language that could match the ambitions of a new era, the Klismos chair returned, reinterpreted by English and French craftsmen who understood that the most beautiful forms are the ones that have already survived two thousand years.

This chair carries that history and adds its own. The frame is painted ivory and gold, decorated with hand-painted floral borders and classical ornamental details that run continuously from the crest rail to the seat frame. The chairback panel is painted with a Capriccio landscape in the manner of the Grand Tour, ruins, trees and a distant sky rendered in the spirit of the imagined journeys that shaped the taste of an entire era. A silver-grey velvet cushion completes the composition with the quiet luxury of a single, well-chosen material.
