Description
Description
The vanity stool occupies a particular place in the history of French decorative arts. Small in scale, precise in craft, it was never an afterthought. In the great chambres and boudoirs of 18th-century France, every piece of furniture was considered as part of a complete interior argument, and the stool was no exception.
This Louis XV Vanity Stool is framed in carved wood finished in deep hunter green with gilded ormolu detailing along the apron and legs. The cabriole legs carry the characteristic curve of the period, tapering to scrolled feet with quiet authority. The seat is upholstered in warm caramel leather, button-tufted, bordered with brass nail head trim that draws a clean line between material and frame.
The combination of green, gold and leather gives the piece a distinctly masculine elegance within a traditionally feminine form. It works as well beside a dressing table as it does at the foot of a bed, in a dressing room, or as a singular accent in a library or study.
Part of The Verdure Collection, a suite of Louis XVI furniture defined by green lacquer grounds, gilded carving and botanical decorative detail.
