The Directoire period is one of the most underappreciated chapters in French decorative arts. Caught between the ornamental excess of Louis XVI and the imperial ambitions of Napoleon, it produced furniture of rare refinement: stripped of Rococo flourish, not yet hardened into Empire formality, existing in a brief moment of elegant restraint.

This accent chair speaks that language. The frame is built on straight, tapered legs with delicate reeding, the back formed by two horizontal rails in the classical Directoire manner. The structure is painted in deep forest green with fine gilt line detailing, and decorated by hand with floral sprays in amber, yellow and ivory, applied with the lightness of watercolor on wood.

The seat is upholstered in a cream damask that allows the painted frame to remain the protagonist. Nothing competes. Everything contributes.
