The three-piece suite, a grand sofa, a settee and an armchair, is conceived in the Rococo Baroque Revival tradition, the 19th-century movement that looked back at the theatrical excess of Louis XV and decided that it had not gone nearly far enough. The gilded frames are carved with a density that borders on sculpture, acanthus scrollwork cascading across the crest rails, aprons and cabriole legs with the freedom of craftsmen who understood that in this particular tradition, restraint was not a virtue.

The upholstery brings the composition to its conclusion. The sofa and settee are dressed in a cream ground floral tapestry of considerable scale, the botanical repeat carrying roses, leaves and blossoms across every surface with the abundance of a garden in full summer. The armchair takes a different position, upholstered in deep emerald velvet that anchors the entire grouping with the authority of a single, perfectly chosen color. Together the cream and the emerald and the gold form a palette that feels simultaneously ancient and alive.
