There is a green that belongs exclusively to the great porcelain tradition. Not quite jade, not quite sage, not quite grey. Celadon, the color that Chinese potters first discovered and European makers spent two centuries trying to replicate, a glaze that seems to hold light rather than reflect it, as if the porcelain itself were luminous from within.

This collection brings together two pieces united by that glaze and by the full decorative ambition of the Sèvres tradition. The open campaign urn and the covered palace vase each carry celadon grounds traced with gilded arabesque scrollwork, interrupted by hand-painted floral medallions where roses, foxgloves and summer blooms are rendered against a pale ground with the patience of a miniaturist. The ormolu mounts, pierced collars, scrolled handles and pine finials are cast with the weight and precision of French gilded bronze at its most formal.

Displayed together they form a Garniture, one piece open to the room, one sealed and self-contained, the two postures of a collection that knows how to hold an interior's attention without demanding it.
