Description
Description
The French Rococo mantel clock is one of the most complete expressions of 18th-century European decorative arts. Conceived not merely to tell time but to animate a mantelpiece, a console or a library shelf with the full vocabulary of the period, it brought together porcelain, gilded bronze, sculpture and horology into a single object that was as much architecture as it was furniture.
This mantel clock embodies that tradition. A porcelain cherub crowns the composition, seated on clouds above the gilt dial, flanked by two birds in flight rendered in hand-painted porcelain with naturalistic detail. The ormolu framework cascades down through scrolled acanthus, floral swags and a painted portrait medallion to a white marble base mounted with gilded bronze feet, each element contributing to a composition that rewards close attention at every level.
Available in two colorways: a polychrome version in the French Rococo manner, with soft pinks, greens and gilt, and a blue and white Delft version that places the same sculptural composition within the Chinoiserie decorative tradition.
This is the kind of clock that defines a room's character rather than simply occupying space within it. For grand mantelpieces, library consoles and collected interiors designed in the French Rococo, Chinoiserie or European Decorative Arts tradition.
Newly crafted in the European decorative arts tradition.
