Description
Description
In the late 17th century, the kilns of Arita in southern Japan began producing a porcelain that Europe had never seen before. Deep cobalt blue, warm white and gold, applied with a precision and decorative ambition that made every piece feel like a small act of devotion. The Dutch East India Company carried these wares westward, and within a generation the courts of Europe were obsessed. Meissen copied it. Worcester interpreted it. Dresden collected it by the roomful.
What made Imari irresistible was not any single element but the combination: the weight of the blue, the warmth of the gold, the way the two colors moved together across a surface as if they had always belonged to each other.
This collection brings that tradition into conversation with the European gilded bronze craft. Seven pieces, each carrying the Imari vocabulary of blue florals, exotic birds and gold-traced branches across porcelain bodies of varying forms, from the intimate round jar to the commanding twin-handle urn. The ormolu mounts, ring handles, scrolled acanthus bases, pine finials and Rococo feet, place each piece firmly in the European decorative arts tradition, completing the dialogue between East and West that Imari began three centuries ago.
Displayed as a complete collection or arranged individually across a room, these pieces carry the particular authority of objects that know exactly where they come from.
Newly crafted in the European decorative arts tradition.
