The table surface is hand-painted with Chinoiserie landscapes, pavilions, figures and flowering trees rendered in warm gold against a deep tobacco ground, framed by a geometric border that echoes the lacquerwork of the East. The carved and gilded apron, the shell-carved cabriole legs and the single drawer complete a piece of furniture that would be worth owning even without the game.

The matching armchair follows the same vocabulary without repeating it. The Queen Anne vase splat back is painted with a continuous Chinoiserie composition, the green leather seat providing the only moment of color in an otherwise gold and shadow palette.
